It was the ’65 and ’83 Mustangs that got us an invite to the Honk Rattle & Roll Touring Club, but as I was contemplating retirement back around 2010, I got to thinking that maybe it would be nice to have a convertible to travel in before (and after) retirement… Kathy also agreed that this would be a nice idea.
So, in January 2011, we brought home the new Mustang, which is our ‘trip car.’ It is (only) a 6-cylinder, but with 300+ horsepower and 30 mpg, it is what we were looking for for traveling.
While it is not quite a ‘daily driver,’ it has been everywhere that we frequent (except the garbage dump)!
It now sits with just over 148,000 miles on the odometer. It has taken us as far north as the thumb of Michigan and the shore of Lake Ontario in Canada, as far south as Bradenton Beach, FL, and Padre Island at Corpus Christi, Texas. as far west as San Antonio, TX, and to the east coast at several locations. So far, we have driven the Natchez Trace, the Great River Road along the Mississippi River from Minnesota to Kentucky, and portions of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive. And plans for several more drives!
And, of course, we love taking it on the HRR tours, especially on pretty, warm days!
