April Tour Recap

It was a dark and stormy night. No, actually, it was a beautiful spring day.  Honk, Rattle and Roll members met at Barbara and Tom’s cabin (Loafers Glory) and the caravan left at 9 a.m.  Russ Barnes led the pack, with Melanie and Paul Collins in the middle, and Tom and Barbara Collins bringing up the rear.  We had a total of 42 members and guest who went on this tour (some met us along the way at various points).  After stopping for a bathroom break in Watertown, we proceeded to Granville, TN where there was a variety of events occurring:  an antique car show, a 1940’s reenactment of military maneuvers (complete with gun fire!) food, walking through various places like T.B. Sutton General Store, museums, an opportunity for wine tasting provided by six or seven local wineries.  After participating in the festivities for a couple of hours, we left and most of the vehicles headed to Red Barn Winery in Lafayette, TN for wine tasting and purchasing!  From there, 19 of us followed Mark and David Qualls and family to Armour’s Hotel in Red Boiling Springs where we had an awesome dinner (pork chops in gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, fried apples, rolls, tea/coffee, strawberry short cake!)  We occupied the whole place except for one couple there celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary. Then, Melanie led a game of car trivia where team Barbara Collins and Carol Hughes tied as winners with Robert and Janet Shadoin.  Prizes were awarded and even those who came in second place Paul and Mary Harvey and last place (Jennifer and Michael B)  received medals!

After a wonderful breakfast on Sunday morning (scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash brown potatoes, fruit, biscuits, various jellies, coffee, sausage gravy and chocolate gravy – yes, there really is such a thing and it is outstanding!).  Then, we had to say goodbye and proceed home, knowing we had made memories and new friends!

Dine Out Night – 3/21/2017

HRR Members,

I want to thank the HRR Members who attended the March Dine Out Night on Tuesday March 21st for braving the weather to attend. We had a severe thunderstorm come through about an hour before our Dine Out time that left trees down and an eighteen wheeler turned over. Several members called to say they could not make it because they could not get out of their neighborhood due to the downed trees.

Considering the conditions, we still had a great turnout with 42 attending. The food was great and the conversation and fellowship even better.

Thank you again for attending the March Dine Out Night at the Gondolier. We look forward to seeing all of you at the next Dine Out Night on Tuesday, May 16. The details will be announced soon.

Roy and Janet Fulton

Lane Motor Museum Visit – 3/18/2017

What a great visit to the Lane Motor Museum on Saturday, March 18th!  Three Middle Tennessee AACA clubs came together to view the unique collection of automobiles housed at the museum: Music City AACA, the Battlefield Region AACA, and our own Honk, Rattle and Roll Touring Region.  In addition to the cars on the show floor, two basement tours were conducted that revealed the many cars being restored, maintained, or simply waiting for their time on display.  This basement tour also included a special viewing of unique Datsun/Nissan vehicles; these vehicles required special permission from Nissan North America to view and are not normally seen on basement tours.  Thanks to Randy Shemin for coordinating the event and access to the Nissan collection!
