The Happening: The Honk, Rattle, and Roll February Classic Car Tour

The Honk, Rattle, and Roll classic car tour on Saturday, February 16 was an awesomely fun event. We had 36 participants and a rainless day to enjoy!
After great coffee, donuts, and conversation at Loafers’ Glory, the tour headed to our first stop, Gateway Classic Cars. The Gateway warehouse was filled with beautiful cars of every description, year, model, and price. Everyone fell in love with the first car on the showroom floor, a 1934 Plymouth coupe in dazzling maroon and only $42,000.

Our second stop was the best stop of all. We met Jeff McGinnis and his crew, house parents, and children of the Baptist Children’s Home in Brentwood. Cheyenne, a ward of the home and an eleventh grader at Brentwood High School, gave our group her personal testimony. She had been living with her grandmother, and they did not get along. When Cheyenne finally ran away from home, she was removed and placed at the Baptist Children’s Home. Cheyenne broke down telling her story, and I don’t believe that there was a dry eye in the place.

Our group also toured the homes that are “home away from home for these children.” The homes were clean, neat, and provided a safe place for these children to reassess who they are and to get a fresh start in a beautiful and loving Christian environment.

Lunch at “Famous Daves” was delicious. The barbecue, French fries, baked beans, hot pickles, and even banana pudding flowed. The staff even visited the parking lots to drool over our classics parked there.

Our last stop was at “Streetside Classic Cars.” Again, every year, make, model and price could be found. The 1938 Packard as you entered the showroom was a mere $129,000. The 1958 Imperial stopped everyone for a closer look. Mike Barrett’s showed us his brother’s bright yellow corvette on the floor and for sale.

October Driving Tour Pictures

The Fall Colors and Tables by the Lake Tour turn out was very good despite the early rains. Several old cars were driven and by late morning I’m sure others that didn’t bring out their old iron wished they had. The ride to the collections and the restaurant was not the most scenic the “Fall Colors” didn’t live up to expectations since the leaves are just starting to turn, however the “Tables by the Lake” lived up to it’s name by providing a great view of the lake, nice boats and a couple nice homes.

The collections of John Jennings and Larry King were very diverse providing every member at least one vehicle they would like to have in their garage. Both hosts were very gracious trusting and allowing us to freely roam their facilities at our own pace. Also, if you remember, Larry King invited anyone from our club to show up at his shop on Thursday’s for an ongoing get together with other car enthusiasts.

We hope everyone enjoyed lunch at “The Rudder” located at Anchor High Marina in Hendersonville where we were provided a private room and dedicated waiter so that we could enjoy each other`s company without distractions.

WOW, what a great tour! Good weather, good food and excellent collections with 49 members attending in 24 cars. Thanks to Glenn & Robert Halls for sharing their collections with us and Butch Roth, Russ & Pat Barnes for their great planning. The tour went off as scheduled with no one getting lost. On a very hot June day we began at Tom and Barbara Collins’ “Loafer’s Glory” for coffee and doughnuts and our usual safety briefing. With 13 great cars and 24 attendees, we were off at 9 am. Russ Barnes delivered up yet another fabulous route of approximately 157 miles.

I just wanted to share a quick note to wrap up our great day last Saturday. I ordered good weather and it was delivered in sunshine!

Our day started a little earlier than usual on the west side of Murfreesboro at the Kroger parking lot, and as usual Tom brought donuts to be enjoyed off the hood of his car.

February Tour – Lane Motor Museum

Even with all the morning rain, the Honk, Rattle and Roll tour on February 17th proved to be another successful outing. Before leaving Loafers Glory, we recognized our Webmaster Matt Wilson for receiving the AACA 2017 Master Webmaster award. This distinction is for superior achievements in improving relationships with members and automotive hobbyists through internet communications.

The excursion did prove to be a slight challenge due to the rain. Many temporary streams and bodies of water were visible along our route. The rain did distract from viewing the scenery, but no significant driving problems were encountered.

Once arriving at the Lane Motor Museum, we all gathered for lunch in their conference room. After lunch and a few announcements, everyone was free to view the large array of vehicles assembled on the first floor of the museum. About one hour later, we assembled together for a guided tour of the lower level. This tour included vehicles being repaired and restored, vehicles ready to be cycled into the upper level museum, and just some unique specimens. The Nissan Heritage Collection that is stored in the lower level was also explored; this collection is not available to the general public.

After the guided tour, members were free to return to the upper level of the museum and continue viewing the collection or check out the gift shop. In total, we had 29 members and guests attend the event with 22 taking part in the drive.

October Tour Update

On Oct. 7^th the Honk Rattle and Roll club made a low speed tour to Cheekwood with a light drizzle that was not predicted to arrive until after 5pm. However, just as we arrived at our destination the moisture stopped and the sun began to peak out from behind the clouds. From then on for the rest of the day it remained dry. The staff at Cheekwood was very welcoming and pleased to see our group. Not only were we provided with free admission ($20 per person value) but we were also given all access stickers which aloud our members to enter all exhibits and special attractions as we pleased.

August Tour Update

The August tour was hosted by HRR board member Rick Jones. We started out on a beautiful morning from club President Tom Collins’ private getaway, Loafer’s Glory. We then set out on a carefully crafted route that was road tested several times by HRR board member Russ Barnes. After a gas stop along the route we arrived at our first destination in Manchester where we were amazed at a vast array of collectibles including movie memorabilia, autographed guitars, and many unique collectibles. There were several buildings containing these collections and it was truly an amazing private collection.

5.3 mi.	follow Burt Burgen Rd; turn RIGHT at SS* onto Hollow Springs which changes to Espy (1.1 mi) stay RIGHT at the Y*	26.8 mi.
5.6 mi.	follow Espy (changes to Lumley Stand crossing 280); turn LEFT onto Duncan	32.4 mi.
.8 mi.	follow Duncan; turn RIGHT at SS* onto TN-53	33.2 mi.
6.2 mi.	follow TN-53 ; turn LEFT INTO EXXON gas station This is our Restroom stop. We will plan on being here from about 10:00 am until 10:30 am. Normally we don’t cross traffic, but this station is newer, cleaner and larger than the other older stations in the area. Remember to give them a little business (gas, candy, coffee, etc) for the nuisance of our tour group stopping by. When we leave here we will not cross TN-53, but drive past the liquor store and turn RIGHT. This is a short lane and there is a TL* where we will turn LEFT onto TN-53. If separated there is enough distance and four lanes so everyone should be able to catch up.	39.8 mi.

We should plan on pulling out around 2:00-2:15.	52.5 mi.
.7 mi.	TURN LEFT out of parking lot onto E. Lincoln; turn RIGHT at 2nd TL* (past the RR Tracks) onto N Jackson St.	53.2 mi.
